Do you know how to learn 64 Chinese characters in a week?

Practice…

I just counted my week’s worth of papers, and there are over 60 sheets of A6 filled with characters and pinyin transliteration.

Ah well… it seems to be working. And they’re not wasted sheets because they’re the backs of sheets which would have gone into the recycling bucket.

10 points to anyone who spots an error!

  1. Haven’t you missed out the apostrophe on the fourth line of the twenty-third sheet?

  4. I’m really torn between simplified and traditional characters. Maybe you can add some advice…? I was told that it was best to learn simplified characters because they’re using in mainland China - however, I noticed that the free newspaper I picked up from the Oriental Food Store was written with traditional characters.

    Argh! Too difficult!

My dictionary only lists simplified characters, too. I guess I will learn simplified characters first and traditional as needed. I’ve already started learning some of the common differences with radicals etc, so it shouldn’t be too hard (ha ha!)

  5. I’m impressed - but how many of the 64 stayed learned??? I was annoyed to find out that the Chinese had simplified some characters so that they were no longer the same as the Japanese ones I theoretically knew, thereby removing the possibility of recognising the few characters I learned/remember! I’ll have to try your technique to re-learn them.
