Seven Wonders
Monday 26th February
Go on then, a little test. Without googling*, and without checking the comments (where the answers are), how many of the Seven Wonders of the World can you name?
(I’m talking the seven wonders of the ancient world… not any of the new tourist-marketing led bumph)
Go on, how many? Also how many still exist, and which are they?
Just so you have something to go on, I only managed to write down four, but they were all correct. I got the correct answer to the second part too.
(*nor any other reference for that matter)
1. The Colossus of Rhodes
2. The Lighthouse of Alexandria (Pharos)
3. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
4. The Great Pyramid of Giza
5. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia
6. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
7. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
Of those, only the Great Pyramid still exists.
(I got the first four)

Hanging gardens of Babylon
Pyramids at Giza
Colossus of Rhodes
Something at Halicarnassus
Something to do with Zeus!
I can’t remember the others but on my list I think the only one remaining is the pyramid.
(done in Word and pasted in here so I couldn’t cheat!!)

I got all seven, but I have a tendency to remember things in lists. I can do Deadly Sins, Capital Virtues, Dwarves…
I also do things that do not come in sevens, and am available for parties and bar mitzvahs.

I got five! But I had absolutely no idea what was standing, other than the pyramid - which turned out to be luckily right. I think my scribbled descriptions say a lot about me:
“Mausoleum thing at somewhere, hanging gardens of babylon, collosus of rhodes, pyramid, the temple of artemis (was in artemis fowl)”

The foundations of the mausoleum at Halicarnassus are still there. The rest of it was destroyed/removed by crusaders to build a castle (Bodrum). Things dont change much then

I’m rubbish but slightly less so than Kouros. I got:
The Colossus of Rhodes
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon
The Great Pyramid of Giza

I guessed four, and got three right….
I would have been correct with my guess of which were still standing, but I opted for the pyramids and the one which wasn’t actually one of the seven!

The hanging towers of babylon. That statue of Michael Jackson. Fox News. Pre-sliced bread. The Library of transgendered porn.

Lighthouse and Pharos
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Collossus of Rodes
Mausoleum of some king or other
erm… I’ve run out now

I only got the pyramids…doh!

And I was convinced that the Great Wall of China was one of them….
I just know where to find information, I’m not very good at storing it (memory card error). If I ever need something like this in the future, I can always contact Nick

I got 3, The pyromid, the colossians and the hanging baskets of babyliss.
And to start an argument with my wife, I think the games was age of empires 2 not civilisations. It’s at this point that a third party interjects and proves me wrong.
