Coarse Fishing

Answer me this…
What does coarse mean in the phrase coarse fishing?
Is it considered of lower difficulty than something else which is considered fine fishing? It’s something I’ve never had explained to my satisfaction.
coarse fish are those freshwater fish what are not salmonses or related to the salmonses.
i think the proper term for the fine type fishing would be game fishing.
or is that marlinses?

Coarse fishing is worm drowning to catch freshwater fish other than salmon or trout. After you’ve caught the fish, you chuck it back in.
Game fishing is done with fancy flies and more skill, for trout and salmon. After you’ve caught the fish, you chuck it in the oven, frying pan or under the grill.

What Henry and MMM say except that coarse fishing includes catching grayling which IS a memeber of the salmon family but it lays its eggs at the wrong time of the year………….which is, apparently, coarse!!

Heh… thanks for the link, but I had already checked wiki and lots of other places. I know what Coarse Fishing _is_, it’s just why the word Coarse.
But from the evidence it does seem that it’s considered less ‘fine’ than game fishing.
