Sign removal ‘to cost thousands’

The American Adventure at Ilkeston shut down 10 months ago but 40 signs for the attraction are still in place.

Derbyshire County Council estimates it would cost at least £25,000 to remove and replace all the signs.

The 4m by 4m “direction” signs have several destinations, including American Adventure, on them.

Some of the signs, which can weigh hundreds of pounds and need lifting equipment to move them, are located on roads in neighbouring counties including Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire.

Have these people never heard of gaffer tape? Tchoh! I’ll do it for £10,000.

  1. Good old duct tape (the handyman’s helper) and black plastic - I’ll come help for that amount of money. Can I have it in dollars, though?

  4. Which is why they should tape over the name instead of replacing the signs completely, Mr. H

  6. Gaffer tape? My Mum would pay to be allowed to do the job. She’d even bring her own gaffer tape.

Well, she’d nick mine, but the principle is the same…

  7. Hang on, I’m sure I’ve seen a fair number of signs around this way with just some kind of painted covering over them. Paint, probably.

It’s not quite as classy as gaffer tape, maybe, but it won’t be so conspicuous either.

  8. Tape. Maybe I’ll suggest that to the people putting up millions of signs when we have election. Every damn lamp post covered in signs. Signs are stupid. I wish we’d live in a world without signs… *cue horrible nightmare about a world without signs* ..

  9. Paint! Paint! I can paint houses, Stu. I’m sure I could learn to paint signs.

  10. What they should do is pay someone living nearby a tenner to rename their house “The American Adventure” and then just leave all the signs as they are.
