Rat’s Nest
Wednesday 18th November
I was looking through some old photos and found one of the rat’s nest of a machine room I used to have to occasionally make sense of…

Rat's Nest
My current IT requirements are a desktop, a server and a laptop. Much easier.
Ah, that’s nothing. You should try working in a University machine room! :O

That looks just like some code I’ve had to maintain.

Ah, the CAR room. Happy memories trying not to trip, get trapped or freeze to death

And don’t forget the big hole in the floor just behind where I’m standing!

Does someone need to have just a little tidy? Looks nice and warm and full of interference, though

Tsk, where are the rats?
Also, you seem to have managed to get into the building! A certain overseas telecomms company don’t like to throw anything away… or sweep the floor

A while back, I posted on my blog about a comms “cabinet” I came across in a university building… http://blog.jonathangazeley.com/2009/07/the-worst-cabinet-ever/

pfft, call that a messy patch panel?
scale that up about 500 times and you get the level of impenetrable granny knotted mess of a Caribbean national telephone exchange

I have, and it wasn’t like that one…It actually wasn’t too bad.
@stu: Love the improvised cable tray and overhead cable.
@seavo: I have had people say about a cat5 cable: “Surely that’s not thick enough for all that data”.
