Tie
Wednesday 6th January
I had a hate-hate relationship with wearing ties for many years. In fact when I left my secondary school to go to a casually-dressed sixth form, I swore I would never wear a tie again.
Now I find myself wearing them regularly.
A quote from Joe McNally’s excellent book The Moment it Clicks:
A professor I had in college used to tell me that if someone won’t listen to what you have to say because you’re not wearing a tie, then put on a tie, ’cause what you have to say is more important than not wearing a tie. He was right.
I’m inclined to agree.
It comes to us all Stu. I never wear a tie except 3/3 days at work on 2010. Unless you are a right bastard, ties seem to make a difference. Bollox. Defeated by ties after all these years

I remember many years ago, seeing a useless statisic on the telly, that the average man has 7 ties.
I thought at the time. Why would anyone possibly need 7 different ties.
A few years later, whilst moving house, I counted and I had something like 26 ties in my wardrobe.
Hummm……
I do hate wearing ties…..

I don’t mind wearing a tie at all any more. I tend to buy a shirt with a neck 1/2″ too big (no more, because then it’ll go strange and saggy). No less comfortable than an open shirt.
I shall now go and count my ties… hey look! It’s SEVEN! (or nine if you count bow-ties too)

If someone won’t listen to what you have to say because you’re not wearing a tie, then they aren’t someone you need to worry about convincing.
If someone won’t buy a product from you because you’re not wearing a tie, then put on a tie, ’cause the money is more important that not wearing a tie.
