Terrorist Threat Level

Friday 22nd January

Is it me or is this absolute bobbins?

Let’s face it, they don’t know what terrorists are up to. The terrorists will wait until the threat level is moderate or low before attacking, that’ll make their lives easier.

Raising the level just allows them to make more laws or conduct more stop and searches without having to justify it so much.

Gah.

/me goes off for a lie down

  2. Given that they’re saying it’s not related to any specific intelligence about an imminent attack, I can only assume it’s a reaction to last weeks episode of Charlie Brookers Newswipe – which pretty much said “stop worrying about terrorism”

Here, have some pictures of “goats on things” to calm you down. http://goatsonthings.tumblr.com

  5. In my opinion, all this nonsense with security checks etc just means the terrorists have won as they’ve made our lives hell… Ignore them or at least ban the media from reporting this stuff and nobody would know or care anything was happening.

  6. it’s tricky because covert intel is covert and therefore it’s hard to use the intelligence while looking rational, because then you have to explain your intelligence and it gives away the way you’ve been collecting the intelligence.

So what I’m saying by that point is that a legitimate intelligence alert looks the same as an illegitimate one.

Now, assuming politicians understand my second point there, and since intel scares are good for establishing control and removing obstructions from legislation, it follows that we are going to get intel scares regardless of whether there are real or not.

So on balance, I don’t believe the threats are real.

  7. And what are we, as Joe Public going to do different anyway? Start looking at bearded people with more suspicion?
